How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

Mix in sugar, eggs, butter, and salt. Slowly add flour until a soft dough forms.

Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth.

Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Make the Filling

Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.

Roll dough into a large rectangle and spread softened butter across the surface.

Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar mixture.

Step 3: Roll & Slice

Roll the dough tightly into a log.

Slice into even rolls and place into a greased baking dish.

Cover and let rise another 30 minutes.

Step 4: Bake

Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes or until lightly golden.

Step 5: Add the Icing

Beat icing ingredients together until smooth.

Spread over warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy immediately.

Tips for the Best Cinnamon Rolls

  • Don’t overheat the milk or it can kill the yeast
  • Use softened butter for easier spreading
  • Let the dough rise fully for fluffy rolls
  • Frost while warm for gooey bakery-style icing
  • Add chopped pecans for extra flavor

Storage Tips

Store covered at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.

These also freeze beautifully before or after baking.
